Reading Conference

1c46b9ee 384a 4c8e 9811 be68f037ca81On Tuesday, October 15, 2024, Chichester High School hosted the inaugural TKAT South Coast Schools Reading Conference. CHS students were joined by staff and students from our fellow TKAT schools, Havant Academy, Bridgemary Academy, and The Academy Selsey for a day focused on storytelling and the benefits of being a reader.

All attendees received a delegate pack that included a specially designed reading ruler and a 'Read to Succeed' keyring, produced by our CHS Technology Department.

The day began with a session led by Miss Hanson, who encouraged students to reflect on their "reading lives" and the stories that are meaningful to them. Students captured these reflections on a specially designed bookmark included in their delegate packs, fostering nostalgic and heart-warming discussions about books and reading.

Next, students participated in a workshop led by CHS Science Teacher Miss Canessa, who explored storytelling. It was a wonderful opportunity for a staff member to share a passion from outside the classroom and inspire enthusiasm in the students, which it certainly accomplished!

We were also fortunate to have author Andy Mulligan join us. He read from his book "Trash," discussed his life, work, and inspirations as an author, and answered numerous questions from students. Andy also spoke one-on-one with many of the students, signing books and information sheets included in their delegate packs. After the event, he expressed his admiration for the calibre of questions posed by the students and their engagement throughout the session.

Overall, the conference was a great success for promoting reading, and the students left feeling enthusiastic about their experiences.

Thank you to everyone who supported the day – it truly was a success, and the students departed uplifted about reading.
